My cell phone used to belong to a woman who seems to owe everyone money. I think that I've been contacted by every debt collector in the state about her debts. Usually it is enough to point out that this is no longer her telephone number. There have been a couple of debt collectors who couldn't understand how I could personally know the woman who used to have my cell phone number. She went to school with my one of my older brothers. I usually just point out that this is a very small town in a small county and just about anyone with that prefix on their cell phone number currently lives or used to live in my town or the area around it. As for myself, I briefly got letters from a debt collection company because a scammer was trying to scam me. This was back in the late 1980s. They signed me up for a business newsletter without my permission. It was clear that they basically just scanned two or three weekly news magazines and wrote one paragraph summaries of some of the articles. I never responded at all to the company and after a while they stopped sending me the newsletters and send me collection letters instead. Then after about a year they send it to a collection agency. Not wanting the collection agency to have my signature because they could have forged it onto some kind of subscription request, I never responded. After two or three months, they wrote it off and I never heard anything more from them. But then, a year after that, the company tried it again. Once more they signed me up to their worthless newsletter without my permission. I went to the post office and talked to the postmistress who tole me to forward everything to the "Office of the Postal Inspector" as I received them -- no stamps required. So every time I got anything from them I forwarded it to the Office of the Postal Inspector. The Postal Inspectors didn't have enough to prosecute them for their frauds, but they did force them to stop trying to scam me. Many years ago while in college, I had a problem paying one company for services and they wrote it off. Later, as soon as I came up with the money to pay them, I went to their office and paid them in full. It took them a while to find a record of what I owed. And then after that, I got some furniture from a lease to own furniture company -- really overpriced furniture. The agreement was that after two years of payments, it was mine. The company then sold out to another company who got upset when I quit paying them after the two years. They claimed that their terms were that I would have to pay another years worth of the lease in cash for the furniture. I went over to the store and showed them my contract. That was the last I ever heard from them.

How to handle debt collectors. When they call say "Hello who is this". They will say "Is this (name). Then you might say "Yes, no, or who is calling." It doesn't really matter. Before they can even speak about the debt they are required by law to "identify" the person they are speaking to. They will attempt to do this by asking you to "verify" certain private information like DOB, address, SSN. They usually start with DOB. So they will say "Can you verify your DOB?". To which you say "Yes, what do you have". Then they will say "No, I need you to tell me your DOB so that it can be verified". Then you say "Sure, I can verify my DOB. Tell me what you have on file and I will tell you if it is correct". They will start to get pretty frustrated at this point and say "Sir I can't give out that information. I need you to tell me your DOB so that we can continue this confidential conversation. I have to know I am speaking to the correct person". Now you say "Listen. I already told you my name. Also you called me. So clearly you have my phone number. Now you asked me to "VERIFY" my DOB, which I am happy to do, but it seems you don't actually want me to verify information, you want me to give you information which you may not have. I will not do this now or ever. I don't know you. All I know is some stranger called me claiming to need to have a conversation with me, now they are asking me to give up vital personal information which could be used to steal my identity. Next maybe you want my Social Security Number. No sane person would give that kind of information to a stranger who calls them simply because they ask for it. Now, if you would like me to "VERIFY" some information I may be able to do that. Or you can tell me why you called, but you will NEVER get me to volunteer private information you don't already have." Most give up at this point. It is illegal for them to divulge the information in order to actually have you verify it. Meanwhile it is impossible for them to force you to divulge such information. Most give up at this point. In one case I had a collector say "We will just call back later". To which I said. "No, you will never call me again, because you are unwilling to have a conversation about the reason you called. Therefore calling me again will be classified as harassment under the TCPA and I will press charges which will result in a $500 fine for EACH offense." Then I hung up and never heard from them again. I looked into the company name, found out they were a debt collector with ties to my dentist office. It turned out that the dentist office had "scheduled" some treatments for me, and even though I paid for all of my treatments in full and the time of receiving them, their computer system had seen the schedule going out months in advance and processed it as an existing dept instead of potential future earnings. Ultimately I did not actually owe them any money, and I ended up changing dentist because they were unable to fix the issue for over 3 months.

Have tried investing (just a little) into "ethical" companies, renewables, energy, plant medicine etc over the past few years. Every single one lost money. And if you dig down into "ESG" you can see that their claims are mostly fraudulent. Dont know how anyone could consider Coca Cola ethical because they "might" use green energy & "bio plastics". And for Carbon Collective to score an F on "Fossil Fuels" just goes to show there really isn't any profitable ethical investments.

Divide your minimum monthly payment if that is all you can afford and make 1/4 the monthly payment. Each payment the credit card company receives forces them to recalculate the interest, saving you $$ and paying off your debt sooner.

Only two of the six would allow me to use it. Apparently I didn’t fit the criteria. What criteria? I paid for the insurance and I need to use it. 7% interest rate sounds like a dream- try 28-32% here in South Africa. NO WAY to get out of that. 7% is not even what you pay on a home loan here.
